Forward Sergei Kostitsyn could return to the Montreal Canadiens as early as Friday against the New Jersey Devils or Saturday against the New York Rangers, according to the team’s Web site.

Kostitsyn has missed the team’s last nine games with an ankle injury suffered on Dec. 31, but he participated in a full practice Thursday for the first time since suffering the injury, the article said.

“Sergei’s situation is encouraging,” head coach Jacques Martin told the Web site. “He’s just waiting for the green light from the doctors at this point.”

Kostitsyn has a goal, three assists and a minus-4 rating in 19 games this season. The 22-year-old has 54 points in 127 career games.
