Could Boof go poof and vanish from the Red Sox?

According to CSNNE.com, major league sources have indicated the Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks may be interested in acquiring Boof Bonser from the Red Sox. Bonser, who missed all of last season recovering from shoulder surgery, has been competing for Boston’s long-relief role in spring training.

The Red Sox’ pitching depth makes a trade to the Cubs or Diamondbacks feasible. Boston does not have a spot for Bonser in its starting rotation, but Chicago and Arizona could see Bonser as the missing piece in their respective rotations.

Bonser has been a starting pitcher for the majority of his major league career, and both the Cubs and Diamondbacks could use an extra starter. Cubs left-hander Ted Lilly and Diamondbacks ace Brandon Webb are recovering from injuries that could sideline them at the start of the season.
