Minor League Catcher Ray Serrano’s Epic Meltdown Rivals Greatest Flipouts Ever

He may not have dove into a base or dug one out of the earth in the wake of his ejection, but Sioux City Explorers catcher Ray Serrano did come up with some post-ejection meltdown innovations of his own.

We’ve all seen managers or players cover home plate with dirt, forcing umpires to clean the base off after the ejectee leaves the field. Serrano didn’t want it to be that easy, however.

After the catcher’s initial rant following a controversial strike call in a game against the Wichita Wingnuts, Serrano used his bat to rake huge quantities of dirt around the dish and delineate a perimeter around the batting area.

The ump then went to brush off the plate, but Serrano had a plan. He went back to the dugout, retrieved a cup of water, put more dirt on the plate and turned it to mud by pouring the liquid out.

Finally, Serrano, bat bag in tow, slowly made his way off the field. While no meltdown may ever surpass that of Mississippi Braves manager Phil Wellman, the Explorers’ catcher definitively put himself in the conversation.
