Felipe Lopez Making Red Sox Debut, Ryan Kalish Gets Night Off in Chicago

by

Felipe Lopez is making his first appearance for the Red Sox and Eric Patterson is making a rare one atop the order as they take on the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.

Lopez was signed Friday, days after being released by the St. Louis Cardinals and then voiding a waiver claim made by the San Diego Padres. He will give Marco Scutaro a day off, at least to start.

With Scutaro out and Lopez batting ninth, Patterson is making his first start in the leadoff position since joining the Sox in June. He did start atop the order for Oakland prior to the deal.

Patterson is giving Ryan Kalish a night off in center field. Josh Reddick and J.D. Drew round out the outfield against White Sox starter Edwin Jackson.

Drew is 7-for-15 (.467) with five walks against Jackson. Designated hitter David Ortiz, batting cleanup, is 7-for-17 (.412) with a homer and six walks vs. the righty.

With John Lackey on the mound, here is the complete Boston lineup:
