The Nashville winger was a bit out of control on Thursday night when he hit rookie Tyler Seguin at full speed with an elbow to the ear.
Hornqvist was given a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct, and Seguin was given a concussion evaluation in a quiet room in Bridgestone Arena.
Seguin was cleared to return, but not before getting seven stitches on his earlobe.
The elbow was interesting in that Hornqvist skated several strides in Seguin’s direction, but rather than hit him with his right elbow, which was closer to Seguin, Hornqvist spun around to deliver his left elbow to the side of Seguin’s head. You can watch the hit in the Video of the Day section.
Hornqvist has a disciplinary hearing with the NHL scheduled for Friday, and based on the two suspensions handed down on Dany Heatley and Brad Marchand this week for elbowing, Hornqvist may be able to schedule a few tee times this weekend.

“It was a tough, tough shot by a kid that we had bottled up pretty much the whole game. We felt like we had done an amazing job on him, and he just had one more play to make, which he did.”
–Princeton coach Sydney Johnson, on Brandon Knight’s game-winning shot
On our Facebook page on Thursday, we made the bold proclamation that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and that everyone loves college basketball on Day 1 of the tourney. We stand corrected.
Maybe next year on St. Patrick’s Day, we’ll just get a stationary camera, so as not to make any intoxicated people suffer. Thanks for the heads-up!
We know the goal was filthy, but was the hit dirty?
