Pawtucket outfielder Ryan Kalish was placed on the disabled list Tuesday with right trapezius inflammation.
Kalish has had physical issues all season since suffering a torn muscle in his left shoulder diving in the outfield on April 21. He had neck problems in his recovery from that injury and has been in and out of the lineup since finally returning to the PawSox on August 8.
The 23-year-old outfielder was just 1-for-19 with eight strikeouts in his last five games before going on the DL once again. Overall, Kalish is hitting .209 with zero homers and nine RBIs in 22 games for Pawtucket.
Kalish rose to prominence with a fantastic showing as a mid-season call-up for the Red Sox in 2010. In 53 games, he hit .252 with four homers, 24 RBIs and 10 stolen bases, while playing a very good outfield.
When the injuries hit him this season, an opportunity to take over for the struggling and eventually disabled J.D. Drew was lost. Instead, that chance went to Josh Reddick, who shined early on as the replacement in right field.
