The Bruins made their first cuts on Wednesday, trimming their training camp roster by six.

Forwards Tyler Randell, Yannick Riendeau, Stefan Chaput, Calle Ridderwall and Kyle MacKinnon were each assigned to the Bruins’ American Hockey League affiliate in Providence, while forward Anthony Camara was returned to his junior team, the Saginaw Spirit of Ontario Hockey League.

There were no surprises in that group. Camara was a third-round pick in June who showed his toughness with a fight in the second rookie game against the Islanders last week. The Bruins also hope to see him further hone his offensive skills, and he showed some promise of that as well with a goal late in that rookie game.

MacKinnon and Ridderwall were invites to the main camp signed to AHL deals by Providence this summer, while Randell is another tough OHLer (19 fights last year with Kitchener) who will be playing his first pro season this year. Riendeau split last season between the AHL and ECHL and Chaput is a minor leaguer originally brought to the Bruins organization in a trade for Brian McGrattan late last season.

With the moves, the Bruins now have 48 players remaining in camp, with 27 forwards, 17 defensemen and four goaltenders. Boston opens its preseason slate Wednesday night in Ottawa.
