As the 2011-12 season approaches, the Bruins are getting closer to finalizing their roster. General manager Peter Chiarelli announced the release of seven players from the Bruins' training camp roster on Tuesday.

Zach Hamill and Trent Whitfield will be placed on waivers and, upon clearing, will be sent to Providence.

This marks the fifth consecutive season that Hamill has started off in Providence. He's played just four games in a Boston uniform.

Whitfield, who played 16 games for the Bruins in 2009-10, spent all of last season in Providence and will start there again in 2011.

Jamie Arniel, Colby Cohen, Michael Hutchinson, Zach McKelvie and David Warsofsky will also be assigned to Providence.

Cohen and Warsofsky were teammates together at Boston University for two seasons.

Cohen spent most of last season with the Lake Erie Monsters but did get called up to play three games for the Colorado Avalanche. He was traded to the Bruins for Matt Hunwick last November.

Warsofsky left BU at the end of last season, forgoing his final year of collegiate eligibility and played 10 games on the blue line in Providence to close the year.

McKelvie played his college hockey at the United States Military Academy with Army and was required to serve in the armed forces for two years upon graduation. The Bruins signed McKelvie to a one-year contract in July.

Hutchinson, a goaltender, was picked in the third round of the 2008 NHL draft by the B's. Last season he played 28 games for Providence, going 13-10-1 with a 3.13 goals-against average and a 90.4 save percentage.

Arniel was also a Bruins draft pick in 2008. He will be starting his third season in Providence but is coming off a productive season, registering 23 goals and 27 assists.

The Providence Bruins opened their training camp on Tuesday and start their season Oct. 7.
