Theo Epstein announced in Thursday’s end-of-year news conference that second baseman Dustin Pedroia is scheduled to get a screw removed from his foot on Friday night.

Pedroia had season-ending surgery on the injured left foot in 2010 but managed to play in 159 games in 2011. He missed one game in May due to an injury to the left foot and one game in June due to a left knee injury.

The second baseman finished the year with a .307 batting average to go with 21 homers and 91 RBIs — both career-highs. His 731 plate appearances were most in the American League.
