BOSTON — Tuukka Rask will get his first start of the season as the Bruins host Colorado in a matinee Monday at the Garden.
Tim Thomas started the first two games of the season but will get some rest as his understudy gets the call against the Avalanche. Rask had a strong camp and looked good in the preseason. Bruins coach Claude Julien is hoping to be able to have a more balanced workload between his goaltenders to help keep both fresh throughout the season.
Julien said there would be no other line changes for the game, so Benoit Pouliot is expected to remain on the third line with Chris Kelly and Tyler Seguin, while Jordan Caron will be the healthy scratch for the second straight game.
For Colorado, former Bruin Matt Hunwick was a scratch in the Avalanche's opener on Saturday, but could get into the lineup against his old team.
Dave Jackson and Justin St. Pierre will be the referees, with Brian Mach and Thor Nelson working the lines.
