Zack Greinke Could Be Impact Trade to Bolster Red Sox Rotation

Zack Greinke Could Be Impact Trade to Bolster Red Sox RotationYou could put together a pretty good rotation of American League East starters currently on the disabled list.

Clay Buccholz and Josh Beckett have both been forced to miss starts recently — though Beckett will return to face the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night. Meanwhile, in New York, the Yankees suffered a double blow on Wednesday, as CC Sabathia and Andy Pettitte both hit the DL, the latter with a broken left ankle that figures to leave him sidelined for at least six weeks.

With such instability in the rotations of two of baseball's highest-spending teams, all eyes will be on Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington and Yankees GM Brian Cashman to see if either looks to acquire a starter ahead of the July 31 deadline.

Though the Yankees currently sit 6.5 games ahead of the Red Sox in the AL East standings, the loss of their two big lefties could leave them vulnerable over the next few weeks. Red Sox beat writer Didier Morais addressed those topics as well as Jarrod Saltalamacchia's All-Star chances and Red Sox jersey numbers in a Twitter Q&A on Thursday night.
