Red Sox Lineup Looks to Build on Sunday’s 14-Run Outburst as Boston Opens Series in Baltimore

After scoring 14 runs against the Indians on Sunday, the Red Sox probably wish they didn't have Monday off and could continue to keep those hot bats on the field. Nonetheless, the Sox find themselves in Baltimore on Tuesday knowing that they need to continue that hot hitting and go on a sustained run of wins immediately or their season will likely be over.

On that note, manager Bobby Valentine just keeps finding ways to get Pedro Ciriaco in the lineup. On Tuesday it will be as the designated hitter, but tomorrow? Who knows, as the utility man has ended up all over the diamond and outfield in his stay in Boston.

With Kelly Shoppach's trade earlier Tuesday, Ryan Lavarnway gets the chance to start behind the dish, and chances are you'll be seeing that a lot for the Red Sox going forward. With Jarrod Saltalamacchia heading into his second year of arbitration, the Sox will likely give Lavarnway an extended look to see if he's worthy of a shot at the starting role in future seasons.

Otherwise, Danny Valencia gets the start at third as the Sox continue to miss Will Middlebrooks, and Carl Crawford gets dropped down to the seventh slot in the order with the left-hander Wei-Yin Chen on the mound for the Orioles. Dustin Pedroia continues to hit third.
