Johnny GaudreauHockey East is a pretty crazy place right now, and it’s only about to get crazier with the NCAA tournament swiftly coming up.

The number of points separating first and sixth place in Hockey East is just five points, while the difference between third and 10th is only three. Boston College looked to be the early dominant force, but after reeling off a 10-game winning streak they’re just 4-6-2 over their last 12.

UMass-Lowell started off the year slowly, but are suddenly unbeaten over their last 11 games. New Hampshire, meanwhile, has followed BC, starting off the year hot but stalling lately. Nonetheless as of right now, Providence and Merrimack are on the outside looking in.

Basically there’s drama all around Hockey East right now, and though the league is responsible for four of the last five national championships, you have to get to the 16-team tournament first to win it. So, how many Hockey East teams will be representing the league and vying for a Frozen Four appearance in Pittsburgh?
