Think of this as the Teddy Bear Toss’ slightly awkward cousin.
The Bakersfield Condors — the ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers — announced Thursday that their April 13 game against the Las Vegas Wranglers will be dubbed “Undie Sunday.” Fans are invited to bring new — and only new — undergarments into the arena and toss them onto the ice after the Condors score their first goal of the night.
“In talking with local non-profits, it is quite clear that there is a need of undergarments for the economically challenged,” Condors president Matthew Riley said in a statement. “We thought this would be a fun way to bring attention to that fact, and hopefully raise some significant donations. Who doesn’t like to throw things on the ice? Teddy Bear Toss is obviously a great tradition, so why not start another one?”
Hey, if it’s for a good cause, why not? Plus, the event is still three months away and it’s already given us an image of a cartoon condor wearing a bra.
The team’s press release also states that the first 2,000 fans at this Friday’s game will receive complimentary cowboy hats, because minor league hockey.
