Martin St. Louis Traded To Rangers For Ryan Callahan, Picks

The Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers reportedly have pulled off the biggest trade deadline blockbuster yet.

According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie and TVA Sports’ Renaud Lavoie, the Lightning have traded captain Martin St. Louis to New York in exchange for forward Ryan Callahan, a first-round draft pick in 2015 and a second-rounder in 2014.

Update: The deal is now official.

St. Louis, a late selection to Canada’s Olympic team, has put up stellar numbers for Tampa Bay this season, leading the team in goals (29), assists (32) and points (61).

Callahan, meanwhile, has just 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) through 45 games. He and the Rangers had tried unsuccessfully to nail down a contract extension before the deadline, and he becomes a free agent at the end of this season.

ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun has further details on the deal:

St. Louis will wear No. 26 for the Rangers.
