Playing for third place in the 2014 FIFA World Cup couldn’t have been the most fun, but that didn’t mean the mean the athletes weren’t going to play their hardest.

Netherlands veteran utility man Dirk Kuyt certainly showed that in his country’s third-place match against host nation Brazil on Saturday.

Kuyt sustained a nasty gash to his head while jumping for a header with Brazil defender Maxwell late in the the first half, but he insisted he could still play despite the heavy bleeding. He elected to have his head stapled on the sideline in order to return to action.
