The Miami Heat’s high spirits over a winning NBA trade deadline was tempered Thursday by some sobering news.

As the Heat prepared to welcome guard Goran Dragic, they also faced the prospect of losing their best player for the remainder of the season. Chris Bosh, who was admitted to a Miami-area hospital Thursday after feeling “under the weather,” could miss the rest of the season over concerns about his lungs, the Miami Herald reports.

Initial tests were inconclusive, the team said, but the Heat fear Bosh could have multiple blood clots in his lungs, according to the Herald’s Joseph Goodman. If that is the case, he could be out the rest of the season — or longer.

Bosh’s absence would throw a wrench into the Heat’s optimism for the stretch run. At 22-30, the Heat are in a battle for the Eastern Conference’s eighth and final playoff seed. Now, the quest for a postseason berth pales in comparison to worries about Bosh’s long-term health.
