Eduardo Rodriguez’s debut with the Boston Red Sox was a gem.

The 22-year-old left-hander tossed 7 2/3 scoreless innings and gave up three hits, walked two and struck out seven in a 5-1 road win over the Texas Rangers on Thursday night. That performance earned him Amica Pitcher of the Week honors.

Rodriguez, whom the Red Sox acquired via trade from the Baltimore Orioles last season, will remain in the rotation and should make at least one more start before the club decides to keep him at the major league level or send him back to Triple-A Pawtucket.

The Red Sox’s rotation needs all the help it can get because the group enters Saturday’s action with an American League-worst 5.02 earned run average.
