Come Saturday, fans will know if another racehorse has a shot at the elusive Triple Crown.
The Preakness Stakes will be run this weekend at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, and American Pharoah could get one step closer to history if he wins the second of the Triple Crown races after winning the Kentucky Derby last month.
But the Triple Crown is no easy feat. Plenty have come close, but only 11 horses have captured the title since 1919. The last winner came nearly 40 years ago when Affirmed swept the three races in 1978.
But if American Pharoah can take Saturday’s Preakness and the Belmont Stakes on June 6, his name will be added to a list of some pretty impressive thoroughbreds.
