The Boston Red Sox are nearing the end of their disappointing 2015 campaign, but the excitement is just starting for David Ortiz.

The designated hitter needed 34 home runs before this season to reach the 500 club, and he’s well on his way there. Ortiz has hit 494 homers in his career after launching two against the New York Mets this weekend, passing Lou Gehrig and Fred McGriff for sole ownership of 27th spot on baseball’s all-time list.

And now, the Red Sox are preparing for the milestone with a counter on top of Fenway Park’s Green Monster.

The Red Sox face the New York Yankees on Monday night at Fenway, so Ortiz will have a chance to raise that number against the team’s biggest rivals.
