Report: 76ers Rookie Jahlil Okafor Was Pulled Over For Driving 108 MPH

Jahlil Okafor’s rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers has been a wild ride. Literally, it seems.

Four sources independently confirmed to the Philadelphia Inquirer that Okafor was pulled over about three weeks ago for driving 108 miles per hour. The traffic stop reportedly occurred on the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, where anything over 40 mph is considered reckless driving.

This is another unflattering report involving Okafor, who was involved in an altercation outside of a Boston nightclub early Thursday morning after the 76ers lost to the Celtics 84-80 at TD Garden. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Friday, citing sources, that Okafor also was involved in an altercation in October in which a heckler pointed a gun at the 19-year-old’s head outside of a Philly club.

Okafor didn’t speak with reporters Sunday morning after the Sixers’ shootaround at FedExForum, according to the Inquirer, which also noted the team didn’t deny the most recent report.

“As an organization, anything like this is concerning,” 76ers head coach Brett Brown reportedly said. “I think the repetitiveness on the announcement exacerbates the problem. It’s like any 19-year-old kid, you are trying to find ways to help him.

“He knows he’s made mistakes, and we know he’s made mistakes. As an organization we will deal with them as we need to and should.”

Okafor, the third overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft, is averaging 18 points and 7.9 rebounds per game amid the 76ers’ 0-17 start to the season.
