Report: Celtics Expressed Interest In Carmelo Anthony Trade Before Deadline

Carmelo Anthony has insisted over and over again his desire to remain in New York. If his thinking ever changes, however, might the Boston Celtics be interested?

ESPN.com reported Thursday, citing league sources, that the Celtics reached out to the Knicks prior to last week’s NBA trade deadline about Anthony. According to the report, it’s unclear how far talks went — if they even started — but one thing is clear: Anthony had no interest in leaving The Big Apple for Boston.

“It is unclear if there were any formal discussions between New York and Boston and if those discussions ever reached an advanced stage,” ESPN.com’s Ian Begley wrote. “But Boston was informed that Anthony had no desire to leave the Knicks via trade to play for the Celtics, sources say.

“That stance aligns with what Anthony has said publicly about his desire to win a title in New York.”

However, it sounds as if Anthony might have a breaking point. The Knicks are all but out of playoff contention yet again, and league sources told ESPN.com that the nine-time All-Star forward is becoming frustrated.

And why wouldn’t he be frustrated? The Knicks are 24-35 after Wednesday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers and now have lost 13 of their last 15. New York has made the playoffs just three times since acquiring Anthony in 2011 and has advanced beyond the first round only once.
