A few New England schools have made some noise in this year’s men’s basketball NCAA Tournament. But when it comes to college sports in New England, hockey still dominates.
The field for the 2016 NCAA men’s hockey championship was announced Sunday, and it’s headlined by a host of local schools. In fact, eight of the tournament’s 16 teams hail from New England, including five from Massachusetts (Boston College, Boston University, Harvard, Northeastern, UMass Lowell), two from Connecticut (Yale, Quinnipiac) and one from Rhode Island (Providence).
The majority of those schools play in what arguably is the best conference in the country: the Hockey East. The top six teams from the Hockey East all reached the tournament, including Northeastern, which downed UMass Lowell in the final to win its first conference title since 1988.
So what will the road to the Frozen Four in Tampa, Fla., look like for each team? Check out the complete tournament schedule below.
