Kevin Durant might have a future in politics after he’s done on the hardwood.

The Oklahoma City Thunder superstar said all the right things in his trip to Boston on Wednesday, pandering to Celtics fans and giving the supporters in green a sliver of hope he might sign with Boston this summer as a free agent.

Durant told reporters Wednesday at Thunder shootaround that he likes the city of Boston “a lot,” adding there’s a “family atmosphere” when he’s in the city.

Durant went one step further when talking with ESPN before to the game, raving about the Celtics organization.

“You just feel the tradition walking in here,” Durant told ESPN. “You see all the guys plastered on the walls walking into the locker room. That tradition of being a Boston Celtic is second to none.”

It’s safe to assume Celtics fans are pretty impressed with Durant, too. The 27-year-old went off for 28 points in just under 30 minutes Wednesday night as OKC rolled to a 21-point win over the Celtics.

But Durant landing in Boston this summer still seems like a bit of a pipe dream. As Thunder coach Billy Donovan reminded everyone Wednesday, Durant’s a nice guy, so he naturally would say nice things about a city and a franchise.

“I think when he gets put into those situations, he’s only going to say positive things, because that’s who he is,” Donovan said.

And as Durant gets set to hit the market, it only makes sense he curries favor with any and all potential suitors — including and especially the Celtics.
