Report: Mets Likely To Sign Jose Reyes, And Some Fans Aren’t Happy

The Mets reportedly are on the verge of doing something that might make it hard for some of their fans to root for them.

It’s “increasingly likely” that New York will sign alleged domestic abuser Jose Reyes, who spent his first nine seasons with the Mets, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported Friday. Reyes was arrested in Hawaii in October for allegedly assaulting his wife, but the charges were dropped when she refused to cooperate with police. However, Major League Baseball determined there was enough evidence to suspend the shortstop 52 games for violating its policies against domestic violence.

If the Mets do choose to sign Reyes, it’ll go completely against the message the Colorado Rockies sent when they cut ties with the 33-year-old Thursday. The Rockies lost out on $41 million along with Reyes, and it said a lot about their stance on domestic violence.

Some Mets fans aren’t too happy about their team’s willingness to sign Reyes, with one starting a Change.org petition against the move. However, that doesn’t mean all of them are fazed by it.

Charming.
