The Red Sox weren’t the only Boston team in action Wednesday night, although there wasn’t much celebrating after the Bruins’ preseason loss.

The Detroit Red Wings scored the first four goals at TD Garden en route to a 5-1 win over the B’s. The Bruins now are 0-2 in the preseason after their shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday.

There were some encouraging signs for Boston, though, as goalie Malcolm Subban played for the first time since suffering a fractured larynx in February. He allowed four goals, but he made 30 saves in what was an important step forward for the netminder.

Boston’s only goal came at the 13:20 mark in the second period off the stick of Austin Czarnik, who caught the attention of assistant coach Joe Sacco afterward.

The Bruins and Red Wings will meet again Friday night in Detroit.
