So how did New England earn the pick? ESPN’s Mike Reiss explained in a tweet.
Patriots' fourth-round compensatory pick (136) is awarded as a result of losing compensatory free-agents LeGarrette Blount, Chris Long, Barkevious Mingo, Logan Ryan and Jabaal Sheard vs. signing compensatory free-agents Rex Burkhead, Lawrence Guy and Stephon Gilmore,

In addition to the new fourth-round selection, the Patriots own a first-rounder (31st overall), two second-round picks (No. 43, No. 63), a third-rounder (No. 95) and a sixth-round pick (No. 191).
Some notable players the Patriots have selected via compensatory picks in recent drafts include defensive linemen Vincent Valentine and Geneo Grissom, offensive linemen Ted Karras and Cameron Fleming and linebacker Elandon Roberts.
The 2018 NFL Draft will be held April 26 through April 28 at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
