Chris Sale is ready to go for the Boston Red Sox’s Opening Day game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday.
The left-hander took a line drive off his left hip in his final spring training start, but Sale told the media Wednesday that he has “no-lingering effects” from the incident.
Sale had a brilliant first season with the Red Sox, but the lefty tired toward the end of the season after throwing a career-high 214 1/3 innings pitched. But when asked if he would be on a pitch count for his first start of the season, Sale gave a perfect answer.
“If it were up to me I’d start the game and finish it,” Sale said, via ESPN.
The 28-year-old will be making his fourth career Opening Day start when he takes the mound at Tropicana Field to kickoff the 2018 season.
