Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola made for a formidable wide receiver tandem the past five seasons in New England, but as the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end.
Amendola’s tenure with the Patriots is all but over, as the veteran wideout reportedly intends to sign with the Miami Dolphins once NFL free agency officially opens Thursday.
Not long after the news broke of Amendola’s free-agent decision, Edelman took to Instagram to say goodbye to one of his best football pals. Coupled with a photo of the two receivers embracing after the Patriots’ Super Bowl LI victory, Edelman wrote, “Hell of a ride these past few years Dolamite… save a seat for me down in South Beach. #whenyourcoolitsalwayssunny”
Amendola effectively is the Patriots’ first big-name free agent to sign with a new team this offseason. The 32-year-old reportedly is receiving quite the payday from the Dolphins, agreeing to a two-year, $12 million deal with $8.25 million guaranteed.
The Dolphins still appear to be a middle-of-the-pack team with an outside chance of reaching the postseason in the coming campaigns. But if Miami somehow makes the playoffs, it now has a wide receiver who seems to always deliver on the biggest stage.
