Patrice Bergeron’s future is looking brighter and brighter.

The Boston Bruins center has been out since Feb. 25 with a fractured foot, but he’s nearing a return after skating Sunday for the first time since suffering the injury.

Bergeron was back on the ice Monday for the team’s morning skate prior to its game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and he offered an encouraging report after staying on the ice for the entirety of the pregame skate.

“It felt good,” Bergeron told reporters. “It was nice to be back on the ice and skating and it felt good. It’s been a long three weeks, but still, it was nice to finally move forward and be on the ice. It was nice to stay and be with the guys.”

Bergeron admitted there’s still a little bit of discomfort, but that was to be expected. And while he and the Bruins won’t put a timetable on things, Bergeron was undeniably upbeat about his progress.

“I don’t have a timeline yet,” he said. ” … Obviously, I see the light at the end of the tunnel now. It’s good to be back on the ice. We’re trying to (not) set a timeline right now. We’re trying to just make sure I feel good and have my bearings on the ice. So far, I’m happy with where I’m at.”

The Bruins have been able to survive without Bergeron, who was playing at a Hart Trophy level when he suffered the injury, but orchestrating a deep playoff run without him might be near-impossible for the Bruins.
