Tom Brady is not a stranger to grabbing headlines due to Antonio Brown’s actions.

Between their brief stints together in New England and Tampa Bay, Brady and Brown frequently got people talking for more than their on-field connection. The wide receiver was the predominant driver of those conversations, as he had a penchant for drama throughout his NFL career and has maintained that tendency since leaving the league.

Brown was back at it last week when he shared an apparent Instagram direct message exchange between him and Brady where the legendary quarterback passed along encouraging messages and reminded the former wideout to attend his psychologist appointments. Brady was asked about the back-and-forth, as well as his relationship with Brown, on the latest episode of “IMPAULSIVE.”

“I want the best for him,” Brady said. “I saw a spark in him that I thought, if put in the right place, how incredible he could be. Not just for the team he was on, but for his life and what he could accomplish. We picked him up with the Patriots and he played one game and we released him Friday afternoon. There was a lot of things that were happening in his life that he needed to focus on.

“The Patriots decided, ‘We’re not dealing with this.’ The league had some issues. We ended up going to Tampa and he came back after his suspension in Tampa. I thought if I could help him — I’d love to help him. If he could help our team and it could help his life — I just always root for the best.”

While Brown gave — and likely will continue to give — Brady many headaches as teammates, their NFL relationship wasn’t all lowlights. The pair will forever be tied together as Super Bowl LV champions with the Buccaneers.
