David Ortiz never is one to be shy about his feelings about his former team, and the Red Sox legend offered a plea to the club.

Ortiz was one of many former players in attendance at Saturday’s “Fenway Fest.” The current team is looking forward to the 2025 MLB season, but the FOX Sports analyst believes there is one thing missing.

“There’s still some guy out there that we can still go for, and I think we have a really good front office,” Ortiz told NESN’s Tom Caron, as seen on the network. “To put a good lineup together nowadays is not that difficult. What you got to do is just make it rain, and you can go pick a few guys. Now pitching, on the other hand, is the toughest thing to put together. We got pitching. Pitching can always stop good offenses. The playoff is a playoff pitching (staff) we got right now. We line up a couple of thunders in the lineup to help (Rafael Devers) and the rest of them boys — one good bat would do.”

One certainly doesn’t need to read between the lines to know who Ortiz was talking about.

Alex Bregman is still linked to the Red Sox as the Detroit Tigers appear to be the only other known contender for his services. Manager Alex Cora on Saturday praised Bregman and highlighted again how he sees him as a Gold Glove second baseman.

It still does seem to be a wait-and-see on which team Bregman decides to sign with.
