The Cowboys apparently were very eager to make a certain addition to their quarterback room this offseason.

By all accounts, Dallas was by far the most aggressive suitor for Joe Milton III, who significantly boosted his stock with an excellent performance in his NFL debut. Jerry Jones and company managed to bring in the rocket-armed signal-caller after a season in which Dak Prescott was limited to only eight games due to a hamstring injury.

While some preeminent NFL folks, including a Cowboys legend, believe Milton could give Prescott a run for his money, the three-time Pro Bowl selection doesn’t sound too worried or threatened.

“Anybody that’s played with me or been in that quarterback room knows that all I care about is everybody pushing everybody and getting better,” Prescott told reporters last week at the Children’s Cancer Fund Gala in Dallas, per a video shared by Joseph Hoyt. “I’ve already worked with Will (Grier) for years, know his mindset. I’m excited to add Joe to the room and I know Will is as well.”

Prescott should feel pretty comfortable about his job security. After all, he signed a mammoth contract extension with the Cowboys last September and it’s still fair to consider Milton’s standout debut a fluke and/or insignificant. The Tennessee product almost certainly will not see the field in Dallas unless Prescott sustains a serious injury.

But the 31-year-old has been banged up plenty over the course of his run with America’s Team, so we shouldn’t be surprised if Milton’s number is called at some point in 2025.
