The 2015-16 NHL season begins Wednesday night, and it’s time to make predictions on which teams will win the best trophy in sports: the Stanley Cup.
The Chicago Blackhawks are the current holders of the Stanley Cup after winning their third championship in the last six seasons. One feat Chicago hasn’t accomplished in this run of dominance is winning back-to-back titles. In fact, the last franchise to win consecutive Stanley Cups was the Detroit Red Wings, in 1997 and 1998.
The Blackhawks, despite losing several key players in the offseason because of salary cap constraints, still are, in the opinion of some experts, the top contenders for the Stanley Cup entering the new campaign.
NESN.com’s Nicholas Goss recently discussed season preview topics, recapped the Boston Bruins’ offseason and more with USA Today hockey writer Kevin Allen.
