Tim Thomas Representing Team USA Seems Unlikely, But Desire Shows Uniqueness of Situation (Podcast)The Kings are on the verge of winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history, but judging by the talent assembled in Los Angeles, it likely won’t be the last.

With a young, stud goaltender in Jonathan Quick and plenty of talented forwards under contract for the foreseeable future, including Anze Kopitar, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards, the Kings look like they’re positioned to contend for a number of years.

The future of the Devils, on the other hand, remains up in the air, especially with Zach Parise set to hit the open market. Martin Brodeur has expressed a desire to return, but at 40 years old, another season isn’t exactly a 100 percent certainty.

Los Angeles still has to win one more game to finish off New Jersey, but NESN.com NHL insider Douglas Flynn and NESN.com’s Ricky Doyle think the series is all but over.

The current Stanley Cup matchup isn’t the only topic the duo touched upon during their recent podcast. They also discussed the shocking news that Tim Thomas will sit out next season, and Flynn talked about what kind of impact the decision has on both the Bruins and the rest of the goaltending-starved NHL.

The duo then discussed the Canadiens’ decision to hire Michel Therrien for a second stint in Montreal, which should add some fuel to the Boston-Montreal fire.
