Adrian Beltre's Offensive Explosion Merits All-Star Bid, Says Jerry Remy Adrian Beltre has wowed the Fenway faithful with his bat this season, but are his numbers All-Star worthy?

One of the town’s top dogs certainly thinks so.

Visiting with WEEI’s Dennis & Callahan show, NESN Red Sox analyst Jerry Remy lauded the Sox third baseman.

Beltre’s offensive production has been staggering, as he is currently batting .340 and he is in the top ten in runs, RBIs and OPS.

“He had a couple off years there and I guess injuries took its toll on him in Seattle so I didn’t really know what to expect. I expected a good defensive third baseman — and we’ve got that, you knew you were going to get that, but I didn’t expect this kind of offense out of him. Especially this high an average — he’s in the top five in the American League in batting average.

“What I admire about him watching him play day in and day out is how hard he plays,” Remy added. “He runs out every ground ball hard, he’s always thinking double, he’s thinking the extra base, he’ll crush guys trying to get the ball in the outfield. He’s broken about eight ribs already this year on the team.

While Beltre may be snubbed in All-Star voting, his impact on the field has not been overlooked.

“He’s an All-Star, in my opinion,” said Remy. “I can’t imagine there not being an All-Star Team without Beltre. He has been a major surprise for me.”
