Sean Avery is at it again.

The controversial and highly disliked New York Rangers forward got under the skin of a few Edmonton Oilers on Sunday. The result? Bodies, equipment and punches flying everywhere around the Madison Square Garden Ice.

Avery started things in the third period of New York’s 8-2 win with a seemingly clean hit on Edmonton’s Colin Fraser.

Of course, when Avery is involved, the perception is usually that the play was dirty. That in mind, Oilers defenseman Ladislav Smid took exception to the hit, and appeared to challenge Avery to a fight.

For whatever reason, Smid started to skate away, which is when Avery struck with a vicious right hand knocking Smid to the ice.

In the aftermath, as Avery was being escorted off the ice, Edmonton’s Ryan Whitney exchanged pleasantries with Avery.
