The playoff beards of Milan Lucic, Nathan Horton and Brad Marchand pale in comparison to Tom Larson's.

The longtime Boston TV and radio host, though, had an unfair advantage — he'd been growing his since before the those three Boston forwards were born.

The former NESN talent made a promise to Bruins fans 30 years ago — he wouldn't shave his beard until Boston won another Stanley Cup.

Thrity years later, Larson kept true to his word.

For the first time since 1981, Larson sported a clean-shaven face thanks to the work of Caitlyn Russell, a fellow Bruins fan, at the Black Tie Spa and Barbershop.

"The beard is older than the person shaving it," said Pat Murray, owner of the shop, according to The Boston Globe.

Larson was surrounded by family and friends as his white beard was removed. For many, including his wife, Van, of 27 years, it was the first time seeing Larson clean shaven.

His promise of keeping the beard began while working at Channel 38.

"I meant it as a rallying cry, a statement, a way to get closer to the fans," he said, according to the Globe. "When I first started wearing a beard, the Bruins were in it every season. Who knew it would take this long?"
