Wayne Rooney Shown Red Card in 73rd Minute of England's 2-2 Draw at Montenegro Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was sent off for the second time in his international career after kicking Miodrag Dzudovic during England’s 2-2 draw at Montenegro.

The result ensured England's qualification for next summer's European Championships, but Rooney's 73rd minute dismissal will put a damper on the celebrations, according to ESPN.

England manager Fabio Capello told Sky Sports, "He is an important player, but sometimes the important player doesn't play well and can make mistakes. It will be a good lesson for him and also for the team.

"When the player is frustrated it is always on the pitch, it doesn't matter what happened away from here. It was not easy to control the ball, the pitch was not perfect, and he wants to be the best always. When you miss the pass … I think he was frustrated."

England was leading 2-1 when Rooney lost his composure. The hosts turned their numerical advantage into a result when substitute Andrija Delibasic tied the game with a stoppage time goal.

It was the second time the 25-year-old Manchester United star has been sent off in his England career. He joins David Beckham as the only other England player to be dismissed more than once. He faces at least a one-game ban for his dismissal.

The incident will add further pressure to an already turbulent week for Rooney. On Thursday, his father and uncle were arrested as part of an investigation into a soccer betting scam.
