We're still a long way from losing the NHL season to a lockout, but hockey fans got their latest reminder that the lockout is very real on Thursday.

The league announced that it had canceled all of its preseason schedule on Thursday. That means the next "victim" would be regular season games. It's important to remember that there's still a long way to go before the season is lost, but Thursday's announcement reinforces how very real this work stoppage is.
