Report: Red Sox ‘Have Called About’ Free Agent Starter Kyle Lohse

Kyle Lohse put together a career year for the Cardinals in 2012, which means he could be in line to become a rich man.

It’s unclear if the Red Sox will ultimately pursue the veteran right-hander, but according to The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo, the Sox “have called about him.”

This news is in line with what the Red Sox — and many other teams — have done this offseason, and every other offseason for that matter. With the hot stove burning, it’s not uncommon for clubs to do their due diligence, even if it doesn’t amount to much in the end.

Lohse, who is currently a free agent, could be an intriguing option for the Sox, as he went 16-3 with a 2.86 ERA in 33 starts last season. However, Lohse just turned 34, and as Cafardo points out in his recent mailbag, that could put the righty out of Boston’s age range, especially if he seeks a three-year deal like some have speculated.
