Mike Napoli sits atop Boston’s wish list.
According to the Boston Herald, Napoli is reportedly the Red Sox’ first option in free agency. If the club manages to reach an agreement with Napoli, they’d likely pencil him in at first base as opposed to catcher.
Napoli, who has already convened with the Red Sox and Mariners, is scheduled to sit down with the Rangers on Wednesday. The 31-year-old is primed to make a decision before the winter meetings.
The Red Sox have reportedly made signing the multi-positional slugger the priority for this winter. The Boston Herald report indicated that all other free agents were “1A” while Napoli was “No. 1.”
Despite the interest from Seattle and Boston, Napoli was expressed an interest in staying with Texas. But after seven seasons in the big leagues, he is seeking a long-term contract and the Rangers may not be interested in awarding him one.
For his career, Napoli has drilled 146 home runs and 380 RBIs while hitting .259. Last season, he whacked 24 homers and 56 RBIs with a .227 batting average.
