Report: Jets to Fire Offensive Coordinator Tony Sparano

Tony Sparano is once again looking for work.

The Jets will fire Sparano, who lasted just one season as New York’s offensive coordinator, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Sparano previously served as the Dolphins’ head coach, going 29-32 before being fired by Miami after Week 14 last season.

The Jets were once again dismal on offense this season, ranking 30th in total offense, including 30th in passing yards at 180.7 yards per game. New York finished the year 6-10, marking its second consecutive disappointing season, and speculation has already been rampant about what changes owner Woody Johnson will make. Johnson has reportedly been putting out feelers for ideas to determine the Jets’ ideal front office structure.

Head coach Rex Ryan will return to New York in 2013, but defensive coordinator Mike Pettine‘s contract is up and longtime special teams coach Mike Westhoff is retiring. General manager Mike Tannenbaum was also fired on Monday.

Perhaps the biggest change in New York could come at the quarterback position, though. We shall see.
