Curt Schilling’s Hall of Fame Bloody Sock Worn in Game 2 of World Series Up for Auction

Some baseball fans have been fortunate to get their hands on an official World Series ring. Other fans even own signed, game-worn jerseys that are proudly displayed in mancaves across the country.

One lucky fan will top them all.

Heritage Auctions is auctioning off one of the most famous articles of clothing in Red Sox history: Curt Schilling‘s bloody sock. While this particular sock wasn’t the one worn during his ALCS performance against the Yankees — that one was “unceremoniously discarded in a Yankee Stadium dumpster after Schilling’s seven innings of one-run brilliance” – this white tube sock was worn in Game 2 of the World Series against the Cardinals.

“In truth, there were two bloody socks, but only one survives today,” the description reads. “Here we present the World Series Game 2 model, consigned to this auction by Mr. Schilling himself after the sock’s retrieval from a Baseball Hall of Fame display. A letter of provenance from the 2004 Sports Illustrated ’Sportsman of the Year’ will attend.”

The sock was on display in Cooperstown and will be auctioned off at the Ukrainian Institute of America at The Fletcher-Sinclair Mansion on East 79th Street in New York City on Feb. 23.
