As Grown Ups 2 hits theaters this week, a few golfers paid homage to a much earlier (and better) Adam Sandler movie.
European Tour Golf shot a video of Phil Mickelson, Paul Lawrie, Nicolas Colsaerts, Padraig Harrington, Shane Lowry and other golfers attempting the Happy Gilmore shot. For those unfamiliar with the film (what are you waiting for? Just watch it.), Gilmore got a running start on his drives. It’s a good thing they didn’t try the Chubs Peterson shot. That involves getting your hand bit off by an alligator. Or the Shooter McGavin, which involved eating pieces of scum (TV edited version) for breakfast.
Unsurprisingly, it looks like a few of these golfers had tried the Gilmore shot before, since they looked so comfortable in their attempts. Mickelson did not look comfortable, however, when he tried to drive with a right-handed club.
Check out the video below, and try to ignore the fact that they aren’t all wearing Bruins hats or jerseys.
Maybe Geno Smith didn’t go to Jets West because he didn’t want to be seen with Mark Sanchez while he wore that soccer headband.
Bill Nye! (Not Bill Nighy.)
