“Der-ek Je-ter” was a very familiar sound at Fenway Park over the weekend.

The chants for the retiring New York Yankees shortstop began in Friday’s series opener with the Boston Red Sox and they lasted all the way until the bottom of the ninth inning in the last game of Jeter’s career.

The Captain ended his career with a remarkable day at the ballpark, as the Red Sox honored him before Sunday’s game with a pregame ceremony featuring a number of Boston sports legends. Jeter then tacked one more hit onto his impressive career, hitting an RBI single in his final at-bat in the third inning. Jeter walked off the field to a standing ovation from the Yankees, the Red Sox and the Fenway Park crowd.

Although his day ended early, the Jeter chants conquered Fenway during the last few pitches of the game, bringing his 20-year legendary career to a close. It was as special as it was emotional of a moment for Jeter, who was soaking in the last three outs from the top of the dugout.
