BOSTON — Derek Jeter has reached the end of the line.

Jeter, playing in his final major league game, was lifted for pinch runner Brian McCann after reaching on an infield single against Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz in the third inning Sunday, bringing his storied, 19-year career to a close.

Jeter’s base hit scored Ichiro Suzuki from third base to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead. It was the 50th RBI of the season for Jeter and the 1310th of his career.

As he exited the field for the final time, Jeter stopped to shake Buchholz’s hand and was embraced by his New York teammates before heading into the dugout. The crowd at Fenway Park, as it had all day, ushered the shortstop off the field with a thunderous ovation.
