The 2014 season was a disappointing one for the Boston Red Sox, and that’s probably an understatement.

The Sox and their fans had high expectations after last season’s improbable World Series victory. Instead, the Red Sox are going to limp to last-place finish in the American League East.

Despite the disappointing season, Red Sox fans continued to show support for the club. The team’s attendance figure will approach 3 million for the season, and that type of support doesn’t go unnoticed by the team’s ownership.

“You can be sure we’re working very hard to merit that loyalty and bring back a championship team,” Red Sox chairman said Friday night on NESN’s telecast.

Both Werner and Sox president Larry Lucchino insisted the team will do everything it can this offseason to get the team back to being a contender in 2015.

“We’ve had a couple of bad years here — but not many out of the 13 — but we much prefer winning,” Lucchino said. “We’re still as hungry as ever. We do want to come back and play in October. That’s our goal year in and year out.”
