The Boston Red Sox haven’t turned their attention to Philadelphia Phillies ace Cole Hamels just yet.

The Red Sox have yet to reengage the Phillies in trade talks for Hamels despite losing out on Jon Lester, who agreed to a six-year, $155 million contract with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, sources told ESPN’s Jayson Stark. Boston reportedly is working on a number of other deals for starting pitching, with a Yoenis Cespedes-Rick Porcello swap with the Detroit Tigers being one possibility.

FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal also heard from sources that the Red Sox are not close to acquiring Hamels from the Phillies. Rosenthal reports the Red Sox could trade for Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Wade Miley or one of five-plus pitchers. James Shields, of course, still is available in free agency.

The Red Sox certainly have a full plate as the Major League Baseball winter meetings progress in San Diego. Their top priority is to acquire starting pitching, and Lester signing with Chicago seemingly has Boston casting a wide net for alternatives.
