David Ortiz Voted Face Of Boston Red Sox In 2015 MLB Network Contest

As if there were any doubt.

David Ortiz was named the face of the Boston Red Sox on Monday in a social media-driven contest hosted by MLB Network. The goal of the voting is to determine the face of Major League Baseball for 2015.

Ortiz unsurprisingly was selected as the face of the Red Sox last year, too. The slugger received a first-round bye in the league-wide voting and was ousted in Round 2 by longtime New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter. New York Mets third baseman David Wright defeated Oakland Athletics infielder Eric Sogard in the finals.

The voting doesn’t mean much. It’s more or less a fun way to build up fan interaction on social media during the MLB offseason. Ortiz remains one of baseball’s most popular players even at age 39, though, so let’s give the guy some credit.
